You can find your accessibility check in your website settings under the information tab.

You will be greeted with a score that is made up of many component calculations. The score ranges from 0 to 100, with 100 meaning that there is currently no further action required.

The score is not linear. If a sub-assessment has been negative, the score will be significantly more negative.

Right next to it, you will find a list of average results for all checked subpages over the last 7 days. Therefore, it may be that you see "8" errors here, while the result list has 14 entries. The homepage has 12 unique errors, while the next subpage has only two additional unique errors. Thus, you have an average of 8 errors per subpage.

The following list shows you categorized and color-coded the urgency and the elements on the website that did not pass the check. You can click on the element, and if available on the currently visited subpage, you will be taken to the element.

What does accessibility mean?

The accessibility regulation aims to make the internet accessible to as many people as possible and to simplify processes. Therefore, you as a website operator should ensure that your website is optimized for visitors with disabilities. Depending on the scope and age of your website, various measures are necessary to ensure that your website is readable and operable.

Even if the buttons, forms, and dialogs appear accessible to you, it often requires additional minor measures to ensure that assistive technologies such as screen readers also understand what is happening on your website and how changes or elements should be categorized, so that the user of these assistive technologies receives all the necessary information to find their way around.

What is checked?

Your website is analyzed from many perspectives. fiCMS categorizes readability, operability, visibility, and completeness and provides warnings and error messages. You should promptly address the elimination of error messages. If you have activated the fiCMS Copilot for your website, you will receive an analysis of your entire website. If not, your homepage will be checked and you will need to perform the remaining analysis yourself.

Readability

fiCMS checks whether your texts are at least 16px large, do not consist of long nested sentences, and whether the contrast is sufficient.

Operability

fiCMS checks whether elements are focusable and whether their focus status is visible. Therefore, we recommend never altering the outline of an element. Additionally, it is checked whether the elements have defined roles and can be operated via the keyboard.

Forms

fiCMS checks whether form elements are properly declared.

Completeness

fiCMS checks your headings, their hierarchy, and the presence of exactly one h1 heading. It is also checked whether you are using modern semantic markup such as nav, main, header, or footer to provide assistive technologies with further hints about the content.

The provided analysis tool makes no claims of completeness and does not provide legal advice on the implementation or necessity of individual measures. All tested points are meant to indicate that action is needed in the respective areas. However, you as the website operator are responsible for the implementation. If you click on one of the results, you will be redirected to the element on the page so you have a point of reference for where the problem lies. How you resolve the issue is up to you and your experts, who ensure that you comply with legal guidelines.
